About the Author
Sabrina Wilk is a landscape architect. Born and raised in Toronto, she received her Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, before going on to complete her Diplom Ingenieur degree in Architecture from the Technical University of Karlsruhe. She specialized in visual representation, analogue and digital graphics in landscape design. Since 2005, she is full-time Professor of Drawing and Visualization at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, at the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf. She founded the LineScape drawing initiative in 2007, to promote and foster drawing practice and techniques within the landscape design professions. She has also held lectureships in graphics and design at the University of Greenwich and at University College Dublin where, in 2015, she further enchanced her passion for landscape imagery and visual culture with a Doctorate in Art History and Cultural Policy.

An interesting little book about drilling a RR tunnel.

This book describes the challenges faced by the people trying to drill a tunnel through a mountain in the Berkshires during the 1800's. This project was one of the first to use TNT, back when it was very unstable. Hundreds of men lost their lives over the course of several years and several attempts to build the Hoosac Tunnel.

Interesting application of Dewey's Aesthetics

In the first two chapters Appleton outlines a European history of ideas about aesthetics to answer the question: What is it that we like about landscape and why to do we like it? He then uses John Dewey's Art as Experience (1938) to develop analytical tools to use to propose and investigate hypotheses about why we like particular landscapes.
The approach might be useful in other areas such as architecture when the reason for asking the initial question is for the purpose of producing or locating a work of art.

Instead, he learns that some humans live side by side with the gargoyles as mates, and one of the gargoyles, Grateman, is claiming him. While Jeremiah realizes he does have an odd attraction to Grateman, can a mating between a gargoyle and a hunter really work?

Claiming The Hunter

This is another gargoyle pairing in Maelgwn's clutch. Jeremy has been a hunter for a few years, taking care of 'feral' shifters and vampires that are attacking humans. Eventually he joined up with a more organized group led by Roger and Bethany. It was then that his conscience kicked in and he knew some of the hits weren't justified. At his core Jeremy is honorable.

There is an attack on the hunter's base and hunters Jeremy and Quinn are hurt. Well, Quinn was hurt and Jeremy was when he ran away. So both are taken back to the mansion, one to question the other to mate.

The focus is on Jeremy, his life and mating. As Jeremy is a former hunter, there is unease and distrust of having him in the clutch, even if he is Grateman's mate. There are very few interactions between him and the gargoyles and it's inconclusive if the clutch will accept Jeremy. The good news is Jeremy can give Maelgwn updated information on the hunter organization. So there's another threat to the mansion and they're planning for the attack yet that event never happens. That threat should have been included because it was due to Jeremy and Quinn that the hunters know where to attack. I felt cheated. -- Dan's Wife

Great for framing!

My two-year-old loves airplanes and I wanted to decorate his room in planes. I bought this book which had 8x10 pages and framed some of the photo's for decoration on the wall. He loves looking at all the airplanes before bed!

The quality of the pages are not very great, they are more of a matte than a shiny material and are not very thick either. The pages would not hold up to a toddler very well but when they are framed on the wall it looks great.

For those wondering, you could not put both A and B on the wall since those letters would be back to back on a single page. So buy two books if you plan on framing all the pages or want to frame a series in alphabetical order.

Absolutely Stunning Illustrations!

My two-year-old son absolutely adores this book, even though the writing is directed at children above his age. He wants to go through the alphabet over and over with me (and yes, there are airplanes for every letter, including the Xandu and the Yak), stopping at his favorites. No jet aircraft are included in this book, with the possible exception of the Osprey, which the text admits is an unusual inclusion in the book; however, both military and civilian propeller-driven airplanes are included.
The text, as I mentioned, is clearly aimed at children older than two. I am very pleased with the text; it is clear and simple but it doesn't talk down to young readers. It gives interesting tidbits of information about the various aircraft and explains the basics of how airplanes fly.
Although each letter is prominantly featured in both upper and lower case, the focus of the book is really not the alphabet. The alphabet forms a backdrop and theme for the gorgeous illustrations of airplanes. The realism and minute detail make this a book older children, who already know the alphabet, would like to possess. In fact, I know quite a few adult aviation fans who would love to receive this as a holiday gift! My son easily spends a half an hour to forty-five minutes just looking at the pictures--a VERY high compliment from any two-year-old.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves airplanes. It would not be my first choice for teaching my son the alphabet, but he is certainly learning to love books and to love airplanes!

Flying High with Jerry Pallotta books!

Our three-year-old grandson borrowed a copy of this book from their local library in Chantilly, VA. He had it memorized in three days! This book even helps him identify airplanes at the nearby Air Museum, Dulles airport. I just HAD to buy a copy for our house when he visits. I also bought some of Jerry Pallotta's other books .... look for these, as well. Thanks, Jerry and all the artists!

Written by an established author in the field, it is packed with essential information for the practical restorer, regardless of experience, starting from basic principles and progressing in easy stages through to full chassis and cabinet restoration. Theory starts from the atom, through electron flow (conduction) and on to cover the functions of basic components – resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers, diode, triode, tetrode, pentode and multiple valves. Radio transmission is briefly discussed before sub-circuits are described, from mixer/oscillators through to output stages. Example sets suitable for the improving restorer are described, then fault-finding and full electronic restoration techniques are thoroughly explained, together with an arrowed and numbered exemplar circuit diagram. The repair and restoration of all types of cabinet plus an appendix packed with useful data and information brings the book to the glossary and index. Even before the very start of public broadcasting in the early 1920s, valves - vacuum tubes - were essential, first to the development and then to the rapid advancement of radio and television. By the 1930s, superbly made Art Deco-inspired cabinets housed complex and sophisticated chassis populated with valves. For 50 years or thereabouts, valves – vacuum tubes - remained the bedrock upon which the technology of electronics -radio, television, audio, recorded sound, telecommunications - was built. Vintage radios are often attractive and elegant objects in themselves, well worthy of collection - but they are far from typical antiques; once restored they come to life. Their glowing scales and the warm, full sound of their valves is a revelation to those who experience it for the first time. About the author Since the age of twelve, Tony Thompson BSc., Cert. Ed. has held a lifelong interest in valve radio technology. As a boy he built radios and amplifiers. He qualified as a radio and television engineer and worked in educational television programme production. He opened his own TV, Hi-Fi and video servicing business and was for many years the Head of the Faculty of Design, Technology and Art in a Yorkshire secondary school. Widely skilled, his personal specialism was Electronics and his educational textbook on the subject was well regarded. Now retired from teaching, he has written several books on the general subject of vintage radio and is a regular contributor to vintage magazines.

This is a very useful book to restoring vintage radios

This is a very useful book to restoring vintage radios, I find to many information about radio electronics, but in my opinion the beginers must have basic knowledge, some experience and hability in electronics to get a better help from this book, this isnot a recipe cooking book.
